The most commonly used boat building material today is made from glass fiber reinforced polyester resin (GRP). The material is characterized by high strength and low weight. The smooth outer skin is the protective gelcoat made of polyester resin. Its sensitivity to UV radiation leads to chalking of the gelcoat. Regular care with the right polishes and Swissvax Gelcoat Infusion wax, however, can prevent this process for many years.
