Steel and aluminum are both popular boat building materials, which are very resilient and have a high strength. Due to its high strength and flexibility, steel is used primarily in hull construction and for building larger yachts and ships, whereas aluminum is also used for weight-saving deck structures on steel ships due to its low weight. Both metals corrode, albeit differently, and should be protected with a good painting system.
